POLL: Who do you favor for the Republican nomination for President?
July 31, 2007 Permalink

Wise, not wacky
On October 10, 2001, Congressman Ron Paul led the effort in Congress to give President Bush the tools he needed to capture, dead or alive, Osama bin Laden and the other terrorists responsible for September 11th. Dr. Paul introduced on that day H.R. 3076 - The September 11 Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001.
If passed, that legislation would have given President Bush an additional weapon against bin Laden. If Dr. Paul's legislation had passed in 2001, it is likely bin Laden would not still be at large six years later.
But today, John Bresnahan of Politico.com describes Congressman Ron Paul's effort to capture Osama bin Laden as "wacky." Wacky? Let's see.

Is America Ready For Ron Paul?
Ron Paul believes in low taxes, a small government and generally, the government staying out of your business. Just think what kind of budget the United States would have if we did not have to finance an overseas military and the IRS, among others.

Rep. Ron Paul: The Fear Factor
While fear itself is not always the product of irrationality, once experienced it tends to lead away from reason, especially if the experience is extreme in duration or intensity. When people are fearful they tend to be willing to irrationally surrender their rights.
Thus, fear is a threat to rational liberty. The psychology of fear is an essential component of those who would have us believe we must increasingly rely on the elite who manage the apparatus of the central government.
The statement “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety” has been attributed to Benjamin Franklin. It is clear, people seek out safety and security when they are in a state of fear, and it is the result of this psychological state that often leads to the surrender of liberty.

Ron Paul, Thomist
How many times have you heard the argument that Americans are free because we have elected leaders or because of "checks and balances" or because we have a Constitution? Do you ever hear that Americans are free because they may have liberty to do as they please, keep all the property that they have acquired by their own labor, and speak boldly and candidly their thoughts? The reason you never hear the second descriptors used to describe American freedom is the result of nominalists (most of our current political, intellectual, media and judicial elites) reading documents written ostensibly by realists (the Founders) – they just don’t get it.

A Reader Responds to the New York Times Article
It is scary when citizens, especially educated citizens who write for the NY Times, become befuddled by Ron Paul's platform: his campaign is about the very principles this country was founded on. Ron Paul's ideology is only reactionary insofar as the American Revolution, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence were reactionary. His ideas have been around a lot longer than the Iraq "War." I sent this letter to the Times, but they didn't publish it. Would you like to?

Ron Paul and the War on Terror
We need strong leadership that understands that freedom is a reward unto itself, and that free people should not cower in fear whenever criminals threaten our way of life. We need lawmakers that understand that the best way to lead is by example. We need to keep America a shining light of freedom for the world to see. That is Ron Paul’s message, and we should listen.

Ron Paul and the Path Back from the Brink
Dr. Paul, and the thousands of volunteers drawn to his campaign, are educating the public about freedom and are creating such enthusiasm that even the corporate, mainstream media is having trouble ignoring the phenomenon. It is actually possible that the Paul campaign will, directly or indirectly, halt and perhaps even begin reversing the slide into tyranny that has, until now, seemed unstoppable.

Was mention of Ron Paul censored from ‘The McLaughlin Group’ airing?
We all know that legitimate news about Ron Paul is being ruthlessly and brutally censored by ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX. (McLaughlin himself, I believe, mentioned Ron Paul once in a quick aside a few weeks ago {yes, he did and it can be viewed here}. That’s been it.)

PAUL PREACHES ADHERENCE TO CONSTITUTION
THE MEANING AND IMPACT of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul’s presidential bid is becoming clearer by the day, as Paul’s “Texas Straight Talk” resonates deeply with a diverse spectrum of Americans and changes the political climate in a way that makes establishment candidates appear dull and unappealing. Pundits and observers reluctantly point out that Paul’s consistent views and adherence to pro-American principles impress voters enough to support him even when they disagree with him on specific issues.

Because it’s the right thing to do…
I don’t have to tell you (the libertarian readers of this blog) that America has lost its way. The Founders have been rolling over in their graves for decades. The Constitution which used to be the manual for which the federal government was supposed to operate is nothing more than a novelty in Washington. Ron Paul is in a position everyday with the growth of his campaign to educate America on what the actual role of the federal government should be. We should be embracing this. Doherty sums it up at the end of his article…

Ron Paul Trumps in South Carolina - an Analysis
The Republican Party leadership and their chosen candidates got trumped in their own backyard of South Carolina. On Saturday, July 21st, the Ron Paul campaign, led by Ron himself, made a significant incursion into a state his adversaries believed to be theirs. South Carolina, as is the rest of the South, was supposed to be solidly in the current Republican Party's camp. It was here they had hoped to break Paul's rising tide and silence his message of LIBERTY. Instead, the Republican leadership found out something they weren't expecting - the party faithful yearning for a man with principled character and for his message.

Freedom: Ron Paul can rightfully boast to be the top defender of Constitutional American freedoms in the country. In an era where the Patriot Act, the Military Comissions Act, and any number of illegal executive orders from the White House have essentially turned the US into a totalitarian state, our freedoms need more protection than ever. There is no other candidate with a record that even comes close to Ron Paul in this area.

The case for a Ron Paul presidency
His rising status as the candidate of the youthful Republican set is enhanced by the fact that he seems unlikely to be a cult hero of any sort. Paul refuses to take his generous congressional pension, and disdains all the other perks and privileges of his office. Elite Meltdown?
Though I am not American, I am a fan of what America was and hopefully can be again. Congressman Ron Paul “gets it” – that America is in danger of drifting into a situation where the republic can no longer be reclaimed.

Too bad there are not more Ron Pauls. But I think he has put the American ruling elite into a panic mode. First of all, from what I can tell, he is doing very well. And secondly, the realization is sinking in that the Internet has, generally, given many people the kind of information they need to make informed decisions about what is going on. Ron Paul, a true classic liberal along the lines of Thomas Jefferson, would not have gained the traction he has without the Internet.

The Internal Revenue Service has lost a lawyer's challenge in front of a jury to prove a constitutional foundation for the nation's income tax, and the victorious attorney now is setting his sights higher. "I think now people are beginning to realize that this has got to be the largest fraud, backed up by intimidation and extortion and by the sheer force of taking peoples property and hard-earned money without any lawful authorization whatsoever," lawyer Tom Cryer told WND just days after a jury in Louisiana acquitted him of two criminal tax counts.

Ron Paul knows the IRS is a nefarious agency. He would accelerate the the demise of this corrupt agency faster if we can get him into the White House. Ron Paul reads complex economic bills and understands all the consequences that will come from their passage: the intended and unintended. He continually voices his dissent in a lonely room. Yet, time after time he is proven right. He was right when he voted against going to war in Iraq, he was right about the dangers of the loss of our liberties from the Patriot Act, and he was right about the effect on the economy of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Even when the evidence of the contrary is right in front of their faces, Congress is still patting itself on the back for passing Sarbox.
Is it any wonder why his supporters are so passionate about Ron Paul becoming President?

"What we want is noninterference by the government in our personal lives." Standing ovation.

In case you missed it…
Whatever your political beliefs are, this is a good article that is worth reading. Even if you don’t agree with Ron Paul, you have to admire his integrity.

The Streisand Effect Helps Ron Paul?
By my observation, the mainstream (especially the conservative) media has been playing down Ron Paul because they dismissed him as a long-shot candidate. Despite this, he has numerous accomplishments that are impressive for a candidate with only 1% of the national polls: #1 recipient of military donations, winner of the first Republican debate, and more money on hand than Giuliani.

Daily Herald Republican presidential candidate poll; vote for Paul to top Romney in Utah!
Provo, Utah’s Daily Herald has a Republican presidential candidate poll on their home page at http://www.heraldextra.com/. The poll will be open until Thursday (7/26). Please take a minute and vote for Rep. Ron Paul, particularly if you live in Utah. It would be a fantastic showing, right in the heart of Utah County, if Ron could beat the flip-flopping, Mr. Great Hair in the poll.

Adopt an Iowan.
The problem is that there is an entry fee to this event. It is $35. Romney has flooded the state and has been giving out free tickets to his supporters. That puts the Ron Paul campaign at a major disadvantage. He's also renting buses and providing free transportation. Ron Paul does not have that kind of money.
So, we need your help. For just about a dollar a day, you too can "Adopt an Iowan".

A Vote For Ron Paul Is A Vote For Lower Taxes
What most people don't realize is that the $2.5 trillion dollars taken out of our pockets is actually a $5 trillion deficit to our economy. Economist look at it this way. The tax is taken out of the economy and is gone, it will produce nothing. The $2.5 trillion that would have been spent by it rightful owners, could have produced another $2.5 trillion on the economy. So we are at a net loss of $5 trillion dollars. Multiply this times 10 years and we have at least a $50 trillion loss to the economy. Hard to swallow numbers that big!

Kucinich-Paul in '08?
Describing a past Republican presidential debate, Pat Buchanan wrote, "Of the 10 candidates on stage in South Carolina, Dr. Paul alone opposed the war. He alone voted against the war. Have not the last five years vindicated him, when two-thirds of the nation now agrees with him that the war was a mistake, and journalists and politicians left and right are babbling in confession, 'If I had only known then what I know now ...'"

Rasmussen Reports Ron Paul
What most people seem to forget is that Bill Clinton was virtually unknown a year before he became president. Through hard work, money, a grass roots campaign and national media campaign, all coordinated brilliantly, Bill Clinton took the oath of office for the highest office in our country.

Ron Paul teams up with Dem candidate to end war

One Man, Two Phantom Sources, a Few Fictional Friends, and Zero Credibility
Perhaps CHB’s most shocking behavior, which initially brought them to our attention, was their series of escalating attacks on presidential candidate Ron Paul (R – TX) . What began with veiled jabs at the longshot-candidate’s electoral prospects escalated to allegations of corruption, then campaign disinformation, and finally racism. Capping it all off was a bizarre taunt in which an anonymous CHB source claimed that the FBI was notified after Paul supporters complained in disgust.

TheStreet.com on Ron Paul and the Gold Standard
The gist of my criticism is this: Mr. Constable tries to make it appear that Ron Paul wants to "go back" to an inflexible system that was abandoned in the 19th century. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Paul himself has said there were flaws with the past system, and he would in fact like to move forward to a new, commodity-based, honest money system. A 100% reserve gold standard has never, in fact, existed in the United States.

We Are Not Amused at Being Used ... to Belittle Ron Paul
In a lengthy hit-piece-lite article about Presidential candidate Ron Paul, the New York Times Magazine for July 22 mentions the John Birch Society (JBS) several times in an effort to belittle the constitutionalist congressman and Presidential candidate.

Iraq War Opposition Makes for Strange Alliances
But either way, it appears maverick conservative Republican — and presidential contender — Ron Paul of Texas, will be getting plenty of help from anti-war Democrats on his proposal (HR 2605) to repeal President Bush’s authority to use force in Iraq within six month

Ron Paul: Wacko Isolationist or Modest Revolutionist?
Ron Paul is no isolationist. He sees the danger of isolationism, much like he foresaw the danger of our involvement in Iraq when most of the country (including myself) thought going into Iraq was justified. He opposed going into Iraq from the beginning. I’m ashamed to admit that I was sucked in to believing the notion that we had to stop Iraq and Saddam Hussein from manufacturing WMDs. What a crock that turned out to be.

Non-Ron Paul supporters: Do you understand libertarianism? Really?
“Libertarianism is a political philosophy maintaining that all persons are the absolute owners of their own lives, and should be free to do whatever they wish with their persons or property, provided they allow others the same liberty and avoid abusing their liberty.”

Ron Paul’s Presidential Bid a GOP Gift Horse
The results are not in yet as it is simply too early but if my suspicions on the issue are correct Ron Paul will before all is said and done provide the GOP with likely 100’s of thousands of new members. People are already flocking to change their party affiliation to become Republicans so they can vote for Ron Paul in the Republican Primaries. People that have never voted before in their entire life because they did not feel represented are joining the Republican Party to vote for Ron Paul for the Republican nomination for President.

Shame on the NRA for not Supporting Ron Paulpaul3
It's time to tell the NRA to stop supporting globalist anti-gun candidates. Even with Dr. Paul's underdog status, the NRA needs to start supporting statesmen like him. I encourage everyone who supports Ron Paul to call the NRA. Tell them you are cancelling your membership and are now going to support gun rights groups that back Ron Paul.

Message from Ron Paul
Our bottom-up campaign—not top-down in the usual official fashion—has gotten far bigger and more successful, at a faster rate, than even I dreamed. And the sky is the limit. Don’t we owe it to our great forbears, and to our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren down through the generations, not to lose our country? We can win the fight for the ideals of the founders. We can have freedom, peace, and prosperity. We can be blessed by our fellow citizens, and by all those who come after us.

Ron Paul-Cesar Millan: My Dream Ticket
Dr. Ron Paul's philosophies and goals are far from random; hugely larger than slight; but the changes he will bring about will be remarkable; certainly "like a meteorite striking the earth." Ron Paul is the person to support and elect to the office of President of the United States of America in 2008. He is our chance to swivel and change directions. We must act to support this only foreseeable opportunity to return America to its wise, intelligent, productive, culturally-healthy, freedom-securing Founding Principles.

Dr. RP2Ron Paul has an excellent opportunity to make a strong showing in the Iowa Straw Poll, August 11th in Ames! In June, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain bowed out of the historic nonbinding contest. And now we hear that Mitt Romney is scaling back his plans for the straw poll. A sterling opportunity for Rep. Paul to make headlines.

[IRS W2 W4]Withholding On The Ropes?
U.S. Unable To Prove It’s Not Voluntary. On one hand, it is asking the Court to shut the WTP program down, but on the other hand, neither the IRS nor the attorneys at the Department of Justice have been able to dispute or refute the simple truth that the law itself plainly establishes that withholding is voluntary and permission to withhold can be easily withdrawn by workers at their sole discretion.

Ron Paul would eliminate the IRS and the misapplication of their internal contract law to private sector citizens.
